Reference books are great for learning grammar and vocabulary, but not for conversation. Vietnamese is very difficult to pronounce. Checking is essential, but if you skip this step, you might say, "I can read and write Vietnamese, but I can't understand the pronunciation at all." which is typical for self-taught people.
There's no point in just listening to voices.You can check the correct pronunciation by using the reference book with audio. However, almost no one can pronounce it perfectly the first time. This is because Vietnamese is very difficult to pronounce, and even when you think you are pronouncing it correctly, you are often wrong.
There is no reference book that can learn grammar all.Many reference books explain only part of the grammar. So even if you completely understand one reference book, you won't be able to speak or understand Vietnamese. In busy days, studying multiple reference books at once takes time and effort, and is inefficient. Furthermore, there are many reference books with difficult explanations and reference books that contain expressions that Vietnamese people do not often use in everyday life, so it is often the case that students get frustrated in the middle of their studies.
The best way to learn Vietnamese efficiently is to "understand the grammar firmly (input)" and "practice it in conversation and use it naturally (output)".
